COURSE DESCRIPTION This course will provide environmental health professionals with the basic knowledge needed to understand and control different types of insect pests that pose a risk to human health in commercial food and housing environments. This course will focus primarily on insect pests (e.g., flies, cockroaches) in commercial food and housing environments. Although it may touch slightly on other types of pests (e.g., rodents), more detailed information on other pests can be found in other VCEHP courses. After completing this course, users will be able to identify the most common insect pests in commercial food and housing environments, recognize public health concerns associated with these types of insect pests, describe inspection procedures for certain types of insect pests in commercial food and housing environments and understand and use an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach for controlling insect pests in commercial food and housing environments.
